Karen Freeman Duet
- Early Start & Passion: Karen began training dogs at age 12, achieving top scores in AKC obedience trials with her Labrador. She launched her professional dog training business at 18 after formal education and apprenticeships.
- Business Growth & Expertise: From a home-based start, Karen expanded to multiple facilities, trained 100+ dogs at a time, managed a team of 19, and specialized in obedience, protection, and service dog training.
- Author & Educator: She authored several dog training books, including Advanced Schutzhund and Million Dollar Dog Trainer, and founded a dog trainers course both in-person and online.
- Security & Protection Work: Alongside her husband George (a retired Army Special Ops K-9 expert), Karen provided K-9 protection for celebrities, corporations, and the U.S. military over a 20-year span.
- Boutique Facility in Tennessee: In 2016, the Duets established a luxury indoor training boutique in Mt. Juliet, TN, offering private, high-end dog training services for families, celebrities, and service dog owners.
George Duet
- Military Background: George Duet is a retired U.S. Army Special Operations veteran with 20 years of service, including time as Kennel Master at Fort Benning in 1965, and experience in the military K-9 program.
- Partnership with Karen: Married Karen Freeman in 1985 and brought his military expertise into their growing dog training business, K-9 Companions.
- Protection Specialist: In 1992, became a certified Personal Protection Specialist along with Karen, leading to over 20 years of K-9-based security work for celebrities, executives, the U.S. Navy, and major corporations.
- Business Co-Founder: Helped grow K-9 Companions into a high-capacity training operation with multiple facilities and over 100 dogs trained at once.
- Relocation to Tennessee: Played a key role in the family’s move to Mt. Juliet, TN in 2016, drawing on his past station at Fort Campbell and supporting the establishment of a boutique dog training facility.
- ~1973: Karen trains her Labrador “Sunny” at age 12 and competes in AKC obedience trials.
- 1978: Graduates high school early; works at a law office.
- 1979: Completes Stephen Cobb Business School of Dog Training; founds K-9 Companions in Orange County, CA.
- 1985: Marries George Duet, retired U.S. Army Special Ops & Kennel Master.
Together, they introduce French Ring Sport to California. - Karen continues breeding and showing Rottweilers, earning multiple titles.
